Dealing with extreme heat is no joke. It’s both dangerous and inhibiting and no one should suffer from its effects for long.
That’s where our trusty air conditioners come in.
But how to ensure our air conditioners continue working well all summer long? When you skip out on air conditioner maintenance, your AC unit won’t work right and may even break down at the worst time possible.
Uncertain which maintenance tasks are most important? Don’t worry, we’re here to help guide you in the right direction!
1. Put in a New Filter
Exchanging an old filter for a new one is one of the top summer air conditioning tips. There’s a good chance that filter is still the same one from last year and needs replacing.
If your filter is old and clogged, it doesn’t blow out the right amount of cool air. Clogged filters also cause the whole unit to heat up and wear itself down much faster.
After the new filter is in, don’t forget to clean it once a month to keep it in peak condition!
2. Clean the Coils
There are two kinds of coils that need proper cleaning before each summer begins: the evaporator coils and the condenser coils. Both of these are important parts of the air conditioner, keeping the unit running without any problems.
The condenser coil, in particular, tends to gather a lot of dust while the machine is on. So keep an eye on it as summer progresses.
3. Inspect the Air Ducts
Dust and grime collect inside air ducts, as well as at the duct covers themselves.
If there’s a large build-up of dust inside these ducts, the airflow from your air conditioner gets blocked. This leaves you an AC unit that never quite works well enough to cool down your home.
Don’t forget to inspect the air ducts for any damages at the same time.
4. Clear out the Condensate Drain
To keep too much condensation from collecting and causing damage, you need to keep an eye on the condensate drain. Using a dehumidifier helps to a certain extent, but the best way is to keep the drain free of clogs.
It’s a good idea to check it every week or so to ensure that the condensation has a place to go other than your floor or inside the machine itself.
5. Call in for Maintenance
Whenever you’re in doubt, call in for a professional team to perform maintenance on your AC unit. They’ll make sure your machine is giving you lots of cool air with no problems at all.
They’ll also let you know when it’s time for an upgrade to your unit, make it better than ever.
Keep Up with Air Conditioner Maintenance For Fresh Cool Air All Summer Long
It’s never a good idea to neglect your air conditioner maintenance. Not only is it a potential hazard for your home, but it also means you’re suffering during the hot summer months.
To keep your home at a comfortable temperature, make sure to always keep these maintenance tips in mind. They don’t take too long to complete and prolong the life of your AC unit at the same time.
