AC Not Getting Cold? When It’s Time To Call AC Repair

When your AC unit stops cooling, the rest of your day is put on hold until the problem is fixed. Not having air conditioning is miserable especially if you live in an area that gets pretty hot. So if you notice that your AC unit isn’t cooling your home, then you’ll want to immediately check for a few things.

There are some key reasons why your air conditioning might not be cooling. Check for these several factors below, and then call the professionals for a proper AC repair!

Check the Filter

Your Ac filter is something that needs changing regularly. If it’s not, then the airflow to your unit may be blocked. This restriction in the airflow causes the unit to not work properly.

Check the Thermostat and Circuit Box

If the thermostat isn’t working correctly, then this also may cause your AC unit to stop working. Check with your thermostat to see if it’ll light up. If it’s not working, then you might need to replace the batteries.

You’ll also want to look at the circuit breaker in the circuit box. If the breaker for your air conditioner is tripped, you can reset it. This is not a common reason why your AC unit would stop working, but it’s best to always scratch it off the list of possibilities.

Do keep in mind that if it is the breaker, this may be a sign of an electrical issue, and you’ll want to call in the electrician.

Check the Outside Unit

If there is debris or other objects blocking the airflow to your outside unit, then this will cause your air conditioning to not function properly. Check for dirt or grass built up in the coils. Clean it out if needed.

Is It Blowing Hot Air?

If your AC unit is blowing out hot air, then this may be a sign of a compressor problem or a refrigerant leak. Both of these malfunctions require a call to the professionals for proper repairs.

Do You Hear Unusual Sounds?

Once you notice that your air conditioner isn’t cooling down your home, listen for any strange sounds coming from the unit. Grating, grinding, and other loud sounds shouldn’t be heard. If your air conditioning is making unusual noises, then it’s best to call for professional help.

Is There Moisture Nearby?

One last thing to check for is moisture nearby the air conditioner. Check for light moisture or for leaks. If you notice either of these issues, you’ll want to have it repaired quickly.

Moisture around your air conditioner can cause mold to grow. The moisture is a sign of a problem, but to know the exact problem, you’ll need to have a professional come out and assess the issue.
